Jeanette begins her mortal life centuries ago as the child of Hungarian nobility. Her family has lost most of its holdings but sells all of their earthly possessions in order to send her to learn courtly manners from Countess Bathory. Little do they know that the Countess is a terrible murderess and poor young Jeanette is forced to watch girl after girl be tortured and mutilated. This trauma causes Jeanette to lose her ability to speak even while she was told that as the “favorite” she was being saved for last. The Countess is eventually discovered and tried for her crimes and Jeanette becomes the Countess' servant for the rest of her days in a small cell. Unbeknownst to everyone, Jeanette sneaks small shards of glass into every meal to exact revenge. Years later, the Countess spent days in excruciating pain which drove her mad.

Finally free of the Baroness' hold, Jeanette marries a wealthy socialite. However, when the Revolution comes her husband betrays her and turns her over to the mob. Using her mother's necklace, the only piece of jewelry she still owns, she bribes the executioner to make her death quick. He fails at this, however, striking her neck and back several times and causing her incredible pain before she is finally killed. This trauma marks itself on her spirit and in her death she loses herself and finds the Banshee.

Centuries later, Jeanette own the hotel-casino Nocturne in Las Vegas. Through unknown means she has acquired wealth and a loyal staff. She accepts an offer from her old friend Scandal Savage to help the Secret Six on a job. She immediately takes a liking to Deadshot and is very aggressive toward him, so much so that he shoots her. Unfortunately for him, it's not the first time Jeanette's been shot.

Jeanette remains undettered in her pursuit of Deadshot and the two become involved in a relationship beyond their teamwork. Both relationships are put to the test when the Secret Six take a security job over a prison being built by slavers using Amazon slaves, including Artemis. Despite her dislike of Amazons, Jeanette could not stand these men having Artemis as a slave. Jeanette tries to free Artemis only to be discovered by the rest of the team, who disagree on what action should be taken. Deadshot, her supposed paramour, supports finishing the job and shoots Jeanette again. Wonder Woman soon arrives and battles Jeanette who almost loses herself in her banshee form while defeating the super hero. The team is ultimately able to escape while freeing the Amazons as well, though the whole process is very messy. This leads to Jeanette supporting Bane's bid to take over the team.

Ragdoll and Scandal begin to fight over the “Get Out of Hell Free Card” which ends up dragging the entire team to literal Hell. Ragdoll is given a lordship in the pit while the rest of simply informed that they will one day enter its fiery gates. Ragdoll invites them to join his court and Jeanette is among those that want to rule now rather than suffer later. The team is deadlocked until Deadshot...starts shooting. Again.

Lady Blaze arrives and subjects the team to their own personal hells. Jeanette is forced to relive the betrayal and rejection of her husband but refuses to break. Passing their tests, the team are allowed to free Knockout and leave Hell, all secure in the knowledge that they will return.

Bane takes the team back to Gotham City in order to hunt down Batman. The team is ultimately cornered by a veritable army of superheroes and in desperation, inject themselves with Venom. Black Canary targets and incapacitates Jeanette before she can go full banshee and the entire team is taken into police custody.
