Vance Astro aka Vance Astrovik is a man divided. He is always born Vance Astrovik in Saugerties, New York. In one reality, this man goes on to join the Air Force at 18, changes his last name to Astro at 21, and volunteers for an experimental form of space flight. He would travel to Alpha Centauri at sub-light speeds which required extended periods of suspended animation with brief interludes of consciousness. It was during these long sleep periods that his latent psionic powers manifested.
Upon his arrival at Alpha Centauri nearly a thousand years after leaving Earth and with full control of his mutant powers, Vance would go on to meet the other members of what would become the original Guardians of the Galaxy. Yondu, native to Alpha Centauri, Charlie-27 ,the last Jovian and Martinex, the last Plutonian. Together, they battled the nefarious Badoon and all other threats to freedom.
Vance would also later go on to discover Captain America's shield, which had survived the intervening centuries and served as a symbol of freedom across the universe.
This Vance, Major Victory, has often been displaced in time and across realities, however. Which allowed him to travel back in time and meet his teenage self. The elder Astro warned the younger against joining the Air Force and accidentally activated his psionic powers at a younger age.
The younger Vance would then go on to participate in the infamous Unlimited Class Wrestling Federation where he met and befriended Ben Grimm aka the Thing. The young Vance eventually returned to his parents' home and continued adventuring under the name Marvel Boy with his teammates in the New Warriors.
Unfortunately, Marvel Boy's father resented his son's powers and was incredibly abusive towards him. During one particularly bad night, Vance's father also accidentally struck Vance's mother. In a moment of passion, Vance struck out and killed his father with his powers.
Vance turned himself in and underwent trial, eventually being convicted of negligent homicide and served some time in the superhuman prison The Vault.
After being released from the Vault, and calming an inmate riot while in it, Vance adopted the code-name Justice. He continued adventuring with the New Warriors until a mystical attack from Morgana La Fey put he and his fiance, Firestar, at the side of the Avengers. After the Avengers were able to break Morgana's spell, Justice and Firestar were granted membership and helped the team for several years.
After siding with Captain America during the superhero Civil War, Justice accepted a position with the Initiative, helping train younger super-powered beings. It is during this time that he is able to discover and expose some of Henry Gyrich's dark plans for the camp.
After several years hounded by his former teammates actions at Stamford, Justice takes on a teaching position at the Avengers Academy, a purer form of the 50 State Initiative.
