Gorr The God Butcher was born on a planet with no name, spent every day on the brink of starvation, lost his parents at a young age and yet was still taught to worship gods that never answered his prayers. For years, he fought and held on even managing to find a mate and father several children that all died. After his mate died, he journeyed with his last starving son to a forest. Gorr hoped against hope that they would make it and never be hungry again. However, his son died before they reached the forest. It was at this point that Gorr gave up all hope and belief in the gods. A short time later, he actually witnessed two gods battling and the death of both. He approached the body of one of the gods and acquired All-Black the Necrosword. With the weapon, he became a force to be reckoned with and began a bloody path of vengeance against all the gods of the universe.
After killing a god from America and some of the slavic gods around 800 CE, Gorr had his first run in with Thor. He fought the thunder god to a close defeat, only to be undone by a lightning strike. Thor pursued Gorr and believed that he had slain the god killer in a nearby cave.
Gorr spent the next thousand years killing gods with his Necrosword and absorbing their power into himself. He amassed enough power to journey to the beginning of time and kill the “first god.” Once he unlocked this power, he knew that he could travel far into the future and kill the last god as well: King Thor. Unbeknownst to him, the current day Thor managed to follow him through this portal and meet his future self.
Gorr traveled back to 800 CE and captured Thor, bringing him to the future and enslaving him as a form of humiliation. The younger Thor, along with many other gods, were forced to build a “Godbomb” that would destroy every god ever. Young Thor attempted to sabotage the bomb only to be flung off planet and meet his future selves. The three assaulted Gorr and almost had him defeated when his followers sacrificed several of the slave gods to him, giving him even greater power.
However, the son that Gorr had lost on his home planet only to seemingly resurrect in the future (in reality, a dark construct made of his All-Black the Necrosword) decides to assist Thor the Avenger in bringing down the Butcher. Charged by the prayers of this son construct and every living god, Thor becomes strong enough to absorb the Godbomb's blast and wield the All-Black Necrosword. Using its power, the current Thor weakens Gorr enough that his younger self is able to kill the Butcher, once and for all.
